Tips For Staying Cool During The Summer

Energy bills tend to go up during summer, leaving behind a significant impact on homeowners’ bank accounts. Thankfully, there are several affordable solutions that could make homes more comfortable in the summer.

The air conditioner system plays a huge role in keeping your household cool. AC needs to be at its optimal condition for the warm season. To prepare, there is a need to change the filters every month to keep AC running. Ensure the condensation pipes are clear for the hot air to pass; clogged pipes will draw the heat back, which increases heat build-up and may lead to damage. The AC’s outside unit collects debris, dust, and mud during the cold seasons, and if it’s left unchecked; it may cause the AC to run slowly. Slightly clogged units can be cleaned using a garden hose while disconnected from power. If the unit is heavily soiled, a commercial air-conditioner cleaner is an ultimate solution. Once the outside unit is unclogged, the fins also need cleaning with a soft toothbrush to remove residual dirt and prevent the thin metals from bending. Ac repairs must be done to last through summer.

A thermostat is a valuable addition to help in energy conservation. Programmable thermostats can be set to reduce the use of air conditioning and heat when not needed. Fortunately, they are easy to install and low maintenance.

Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counter-clockwise setting which are all beneficial for different seasons. When the blades are moving in a clockwise direction, the fan generates heat. In summer the blades need to be reversed to move in a counter-clockwise direction to give a cool breeze. In the summer months, the fans should run on high setting with air blowing directly below the fan to create air circulation at the middle of the room. Some fan models may have the blade movements set differently, to ensure that it is not emitting heat when set to turn in the counter-clockwise direction you have to stand beneath the fan.

Reducing the heat inside the house from electric appliances should be a priority. The outdoor temperatures are already high enough and penetrate to the house. Avoid using the washing machine until it is full. Before loading the dishwasher, try cleaning dishes by hand and leave them to dry by air. Using electronics around the house creates heat build-up.

The last thing any homeowner wants is to find themselves stuck in the middle of the summer without a working air conditioner. AC units are designed to last a long time but that doesn’t mean they can’t experience their fair share of problems. S.A.A.B.
