Popular Plumbing Additions
A buildout is the perfect time to add or upgrade systems you didn’t previously have. Don’t wait to make costly upgrades later when installing all the bells and whistles now will save you money in the long run.
Typical plumbing additions to residential buildouts include:
- Garbage disposal
- Water filtration systems
- Upgraded fixtures
- Sump pumps
- New fixtures
Whole-home updates like water filtration and upgraded fixtures reduce limescale, limit wear and tear, and provide higher-quality water for your new kitchen or bathroom and the rest of your home. A garbage disposal makes cleaning your kitchen faster and easier than ever—upgrade fixtures to include touchless faucets with longer lifespans and fewer repairs and prevent the spread of germs. If you’re adding or finishing a basement to your space, don’t forget to add a sump pump to avoid flooding the newly renovated space.

Should I Upgrade My Heater?
Depending on the current size of your heater and how much square footage you’re adding to your home, it depends on whether it’s time to grade your heating system. If your current unit is too small for the new size of your home, you may experience uneven room temperatures and skyrocketing monthly costs. If your system is over 15 years old, it’s time to upgrade when constructing the buildout.
To determine whether your heating system will be too small for your new square footage, find the current BTUs for your system or British Thermal Units. Then, estimate the minimum and maximum BTUs for your new space by multiplying the square footage of your home by 40 for the minimum required BTUs and adding 10-15% to calculate the maximum. This is the new needed heating range for your home. If your current system still falls within this updated range, and it’s not 15 years or older, you can still keep your old system. However, if it’s outdated and the warranty has expired, reap the benefits of upgrading your system, such as lower monthly costs, energy efficiency, and quieter operation.
If you’re unsure whether to upgrade now or wait, don’t hesitate to ask our professionals to help you calculate your required BTUs.
